Joshua was a man of action. Under orders from the LORD he led Israel through the Jordan River in a Red Sea redux. Battles to take the land lay ahead, battles the LORD was prepared to fight and win. Israel’s job was to follow His orders. They did . . . and the walls of Jericho fell. Then they didn’t . . . and puny Ai, at least at first, withstood them. With lessons learned, Israel took and apportioned (but not yet possessed) The Land. Joshua’s Farewell Address to the Nation drew a line in the sand. “Choose the Lord,” he urged twice, “or else . . . !” They did! A memorial witnessed boulder it! But would that make a whit of difference to the next generations?
